Wailea Beach has its moments of energy and its moments of calm, and you feel that shift throughout the day. When the waves were active, our kids were in heaven. They are a little older and strong swimmers, and watching them jump waves and play was genuinely fun. 

At the same time, we were very aware of the conditions. This is a public beach with no lifeguard on duty, and the undertow can be strong. We kept things conservative, never letting them go deeper than waist height and keeping a close eye at all times. SAYOR was very much in play, and that awareness shaped how we used the beach here.

That said, beach access was still a huge plus for us. We spent plenty of time in the ocean throughout the trip snorkeling and doing surf lessons elsewhere, so we never felt like we were missing out. When we found ourselves back at the resort, we enjoyed the beach in this playful way, and it worked perfectly for us. It ended up being a great complement to a trip that balanced sightseeing, adventure, and relaxed resort time.
